Profile Linda Yaccarino: Twitter’s New CEO Replaces Elon Musk

Linda Yaccarino, a seasoned media executive with an impressive track record, has been appointed as the new CEO of Twitter, succeeding none other than Elon Musk himself.

Musk took to Twitter to announce Yaccarino’s appointment, stating that he was thrilled to welcome her to the team.

As the new CEO of Twitter, Yaccarino will be focused on business operations, while Musk will be responsible for designing new products and technologies.

“I’m looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into an X, the ultimate all-in-one app,” said Musk.

Yaccarino is set to start her new role in six weeks’ time, as confirmed by Musk in a tweet the day before.

“I’m excited to announce that I have a new CEO for X/Twitter. She’ll start in ~6 weeks!” tweeted Musk.

Yaccarino’s background is an interesting one. She was raised in an Italian-American family, with a father who was a police officer and a mother who never went to college.

After graduating from Penn State, she worked at Turner Entertainment for 15 years before joining NBCUniversal, where she oversaw around 2,000 people and was involved in launching its streaming service.

During her time at NBCUniversal, Yaccarino was able to transform the company’s digital advertising, generating over $100 billion in sales.

She established close relationships with major brands, identified opportunities for product placement, and convinced them to advertise alongside edgy TV shows such as Sex and the City.

Yaccarino also built relationships with new media platforms such as Apple News, Snapchat, Twitter, and YouTube.

It’s no wonder that NBCUniversal credited her with making significant contributions to the company.

“Linda has made countless contributions to the company during her 12-year tenure, and we wish her all the best,” said NBCUniversal when confirming Yaccarino’s departure.

In her career highlights, Yaccarino was appointed by President Donald Trump to lead the Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition in 2018.

In 2021, while serving as Chair of the Ad Council, she partnered with the Joe Biden administration to launch a campaign promoting COVID-19 vaccinations.

Claire Atkinson, a journalist from Business Insider, has followed Yaccarino’s career for two decades.

She believes that Yaccarino’s advertising background could help Twitter, which has experienced a sharp decline in advertising revenue since Musk took over.

“If Twitter wants to make more money than ever before, then that’s where they’ll start, and Linda will be the ideal person to make it happen,” she said, as quoted by the BBC.

“She’s the type of person I imagine Elon Musk needs,” Atkinson added. “She won’t be pushed around.”

Yaccarino’s negotiating style in the industry has earned her the nickname “velvet hammer,” according to the Wall Street Journal in 2012.

However, Yaccarino will face challenges in running Twitter’s business.

Not only will she need to drive profits, but she will also need to navigate strict scrutiny over how Twitter handles misinformation and manages hate speech
